(3) EHR Toolkit: The guide that Nora Belcher referenced -- the “Six Step Approach to EHR Implementation” provided by the National Learning Consortium: http://www.hinfonet.org/for-providers/ehr-toolkit-mental-health. After the session, Nora told us that agencies can easily implement the toolkit directives without outside consultation. That said, she stressed that following the Council's strategy of assigning a specific person to lead the entire process is crucial to successful completion.

1. Assess Your Practice Readiness - readiness assessment tools
2. Plan Your Approach - workflow, backup plan, chart abstraction, privacy and security tools
3. Select or Upgrade to a Certified EHR - certification, references, contracting
4. Conduct Training & Implement an EHR System - "go live" checklist, testing plan
5. Achieve Meaningful Use - guidelines available
6. Continue Quality Improvement - meaningful use and other quality measures
