Meet NBHP's 2022-2023 Scholarship Recipients
Summer 2023 Graduates
Devion Baker

Devion Baker is in her final year at Our Lady of the Lake University studying Marriage and Family Therapy. Devion is completing her year-long practicum at Houston Galveston Institute. She expects to graduate in July 2023 and obtain her license in Marriage and Family Therapy. Devion plans to pursue American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) certification in sex therapy before continuing on to a doctoral program.
Nefertiti Boyd

Nefertiti Boyd is completing the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Our Lady of the Lake University, with a practicum placement at Houston Galveston Institute. Nefertiti would like to obtain dual-licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and become an American Association of Sexuality Educations, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) certified sex therapist. Nefertiti would like to obtain a doctorate in cultural anthropology.
Katie Cerar

Katie Cerar is a student at Houston Christian University (formerly Houston Baptist University) studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her internship placement site is The Women's Home where she provides individual and group counseling to women experiencing homelessness diagnosed with substance use disorder. Katie's ultimate goal as a clinician is to let her clients know that although it may feel like it, it is not the end of the world.
Deborah Gonzalez

Deborah Gonzalez is in her final year of her Master of Social Work program at the University of Houston. She is completing her internship at Nexus Children's Hospital. Deborah's anticipated graduation date is in July of 2023 and she plans to become a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) and eventually Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Deborah is a first generation college student and her goal is to work with low-income communities of color and be employed at an organization that provides access to quality behavioral healthcare.

Princess Agobock
Princess Agobock is in her final year at Our Lady of the Lake University studying Marriage and Family Therapy. Princess is completing her year-long practicum at Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She expects to graduate in May 2023 and obtain her license in Marriage and Family Therapy and would like to work at a community agency that will allow her to serve Houston-area families.

Yajaira Cruz Alonso

Yajaira Cruz Alonso is a senior at the University of Houston - Downtown and is completing her internship at Communities in Schools. Yajaira is a first-generation college student and expects to graduate with her Bachelors in Psychology in May 2023. After graduating, she plans to attend graduate school and eventually obtain her doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Yajaira wants to become a psychologist one day and hopes to lead her clients to racial healing through psychology.
Kieyana Edwards

Kieyana Edwards is in her final year at the University of Houston pursuing her Master's of Education in Clincial Mental Health Counseling. She is completing her internship at The Women's Home. Kieyana expects to graduate in May of 2023 and would like to obtain a job in mental health counseling and eventually would like to apply to a PhD program. Her goal is to counsel adults who struggle with trauma, depression, and substance use.
Noah Garza

Noah Garza is a currently attending the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work in their advance standing program. He is currently employed and completing his internship at SEARCH Homeless Services. Noah's anticipated graduation is in May of 2023 and after graduation, he would like to continue his service towards individuals experiencing homelessness. Noah considers himself to be a firm believer in the value and importance of the family unit and desires to serve families through counseling, advocacy, case management, and service.
Trinity Hernandez

Trinity Hernandez is pursuing her Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Houston - Victoria. Trinity is completing her field internship at Gulf Bend Center. After her May 2023 graduation, Trinity will obtain her Licensed Professional Counselor licensure and hopes to work at a nonprofit organization in order to self the Houston community and help as many people as possible. As she gains experience as counselor, Trinity hopes to obtain additional certifications to better serve her community.
Loren Johnson

Loren Johnson is in her final year at Our Lady of the Lake University to obtain her Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and is completing her internship at Northwest Assistance Ministries. She expects to graduate in May 2023. After graduating, Loren plans to provide counseling at a community organization while opening her own private practice.
In the future, she hopes to return to school to get her PsyD and teach at her alma matter.

Ana Martinez

Ana Martinez is a first-generation college student and the first of her family to be born in the United States. She is pursuing her master's degree at the University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work and completing her internship at Catholic Charities of Greater Houston. After her graduation in May, Ana hopes to work at a nonprofit organization while working towards her clinical hours to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Angel McClain

Angel McClain is a senior at Texas Southern University and pursuing her bachelor's in Social Work. She is completing her internship at Communities in Schools at Alief Middle School. Angel's great-grandmother is a Social Worker and she wants to continue her legacy after graduation in May 2023. Her goal is to work with adolescents and obtain her master's in psychology and become a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Jessan Perreras

Jessan Perreras is in his final year of his Master of Social Work program at the University of Houston. He is completing his internship at Communities in Schools at Elsik 9th Grade Center. Jessan's anticipated graduation date is in May of 2023 and the populations he sees himself working with are the underserved children and their families, our veterans, the elderly in nursing homes, and those who are experiencing extreme poverty and war.
Lakresha Young

Lakresha Young is a senior pursuing her Bachelor of Social Work at Texas Southern University and is completing her internship at Las Americas Newcomer School/reVision Houston. After her May 2023 graduation, she plans to pursue her career protecting social justice, resourcing families with tools to help social issues, and facilitate more awareness to mental health to improve social problems in our community. Lakresha would like to work in public schools systems and apply for graduate school at the University of Houston to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
